Awareness Generation & Epidemiological Study on Disease Prevalence in Arsenic Affected Areas of Malda, West Bengal

As a part of Arsenic Mitigation Program, Dept. of Health &PHED, Govt. of West Bengal had been entrusted in arranging for treatment for arsenicosis patients and supplying safe water to the arsenic affected population respectively. However, there are many pockets in the State that neither has the required medical treatment facilities to treat Arsenicosis nor an arsenic-free safe water source to be used for drinking and cooking purpose. This report is based on results of an epidemiological study carried out by DNGM research Foundation, Kolkata, for awareness generation in communities and Training of Medical officers and Paramedical workers for identification of arsenicosis cases, study of psychosocial & economic issues related to arsenicosis and documentation of the information about the availability of arsenic free safe drinking water source and quality of drinking water used by the studied families in 7 arsenic affected blocks of Malda.
